What is aso ebi?
The term aso ebi is coined from two Yoruba words: aso meaning ‘cloth’ and ebi, which means ‘family’. The tradition was developed as a means of identification for relatives at Nigerian weddings, funerals and other celebrations; however, aso ebi has come a long way from the days of its origin. The custom has grown from just family members of the celebrant(s) to friends, colleagues and acquaintances wearing it as a form of support and solidarity. (Source)

We would be honored should you decide to participate in this tradition by wearing our colors!

Travel

The closest airport is SeaTac (Seattle-Tacoma International Airport). It is typically busy, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to check in and get through security.

Transportation

The best way to and from the airport is the Seattle Light Rail (schedule and map). It is the most affordable and efficient way in-and-out of the airport as well as downtown Seattle. Lyft, Uber, and Yellow cab are also options (more details here).

Once in Seattle, it is very easy to get around by foot, trolly, light rail, Lyft, or Uber (more info here). Parking can be difficult and expensive, so we do not recommend renting a car unless you plan to go on a hike or do other things outside the city. Zip car is another great alternative to a rental should you choose to do a day trip excursion.

Weather

Typically the weather in September is still mild and nice. You can expect daytime highs to be between 69 and 73 degrees Fahrenheit (20 to 23 degrees Celsius). At night, the temperature usually falls between 52 and 55 °F (11 to 13 °C). Be sure to bring a mid-to-lightweight jacket for the evenings. Expect cloudier weather, but not too rainy.

We will update this information with a more accurate forecast as we get closer to the wedding date.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What safety measures should we expect in light of the COVID-19 pandemic?

As we transition into fall of 2021, we are optimistic it will still be safe to gather. We are grateful for the available safe and effective vaccines.

We anticipate utilizing masking if needed and other safety features throughout the weekend. We will continue to stay up to date on the CDC’s guidelines.

What is your position on vaccines?

We ask that by the time of the wedding on September 25th, all guests over 12 be fully vaccinated. For example, this would be two weeks after the second Pfizer or Moderna vaccine shot, or weeks after the single J&J vaccine shot.

We respectfully ask that anyone who is unable or unwilling to be vaccinated not attend. The safety of everyone in attendance is a top priority. We thank you for understanding and for respecting our wishes. We cannot wait to celebrate with you all!

When should I RSVP by?

Please reply on our RSVP site here by August 24th.

Are Kids Welcome?

Our wedding will be adult only with the exception of family which we have included in the RSVPs. If you are traveling to Seattle with your children and have questions about local child care for the evening, please reach out to Laura and David for recommendations.

What time should I arrive at the ceremony?

We recommend that you arrive a half hour to fifteen minutes before the start of the ceremony, which is at 3:00 pm.

How Does Parking Work At Axis?

There is no dedicated parking at the venue. We recommend utilizing the light rail, Uber, Lyft, or carpooling.
If you choose to drive, street parking is limited and you will need to feed the meter. There are also nearby parking garages.

Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?

The ceremony and reception will be indoors. We will have all possible doors and windows open, and have obtained a permit for Nord Alley to utilze during the celebration as well.

If I cannot attend is there a way to see the ceremony?

If you cannot join us in person, we hope to live stream our ceremony and will post a link on our website if this can be arranged.
